Wake Up Sid – Movie Review

wake-up-sid4
Wake Up Sid, directed by debutante Ayan Mukerji, is like revisiting those college years when the entire year was spent partying hard, bunking college πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‰ to catch up with the latest movies released or just sitting on a ‘katta‘ near the college to while away time. πŸ™‚ Then realizing one week prior to the exams that – “enough of fun, now it’s time to study”. Staying up at nights prior the exam day and chatting with friends over worrying whether we’d pass or not. πŸ˜€ The phase when you were completely clueless about what next after graduation. That phase of the life, those college days can never be erased off from our memory. πŸ™‚

Wake Up Sid tells the story of Siddharth Mehra aka Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) who is a rich, careless, irresponsible, aimless college lad, inshort a slacker whose life is directionless and without any goals. He believes to live life in the moment. He is a spoilt-brat and takes his dad’s (Anupam Kher) money for granted. Friends are his entire world. He hardly interacts with his parents. But he is honest, sweet and also funny (kiddish) at times. πŸ™‚

On the other side, Aisha Mukherjee (Konkona Sen Sharma), new in Mumbai (Bombay, as the movies says) is an aspiring writer from Kolkata. She comes to Mumbai to fulfill her dream of becoming a successful writer and above all, to become INDEPENDENT. She is ambitious, focused and mature enough to understand her responsibilities. Her life has a definite goal. She bumps into Ranbir Kapoor on her first day in Mumbai and despite their contrasting qualities they become good friends. πŸ™‚

The first half of the movie rocks. You can instantaneously connect to Sid’s life right from the starting and relate to everything he does. πŸ˜‰ Only before the interval, Sid’s life totally changes. How his life undergoes a series of changes after writing his final year exams is the turning point of the story. That phase teaches him to be independent and live life on his own. How and what changes him, his life, the transformation of a lazy boy to a responsible man, is what you’ve to look for in the movie. Okay now, no more disclosures about the story, πŸ˜‰ because I’m here to write a review of the movie, not to tell the story πŸ˜€

Ranbir Kapoor proved himself in this movie that, he can actually act. πŸ˜€ Nobody could have portrayed Sid’s character as effectively as he did. πŸ™‚ Konkona Sen Sharma was natural, as always. Both of their acting was effortless. Needless to say, Anupam kher and Supriya Pathak were wonderful, too. The music of the movie is quite cool. It’s given by the rocking trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The director too did a pretty good job. He’s shot the emotional moments very well. The humour too is well integrated in the movie wherever needed. In short, the director has balanced the emotions very effectively. The other supporting actors too acted quite well.

In short, Wake Up Sid is a must watch for today’s youngsters. It’s surely going to strike a chord with the 21st century’s youth. πŸ™‚

So, what are you waiting for now? 😯 Go watch the movie if you haven’t watched it yet. πŸ™‚

I didn’t come across anyone else who didn’t like the movie other than you. But after all, it’s a personal choice. If I liked it, does not mean even you’ve to like it.
Anyways, Thanks for the comment! πŸ™‚
